The Massachusetts Privacy Law - 201 CMR 17 - requires all organizations and individuals that collect or maintain private information of Massachusetts citizens to proactively take steps to protect this information when using, storing, transporting, or disposing of it. The law is one of the strictest in the United States, and it's obligations are in many cases more arduous than HIPAA, DPPA, FERPA, FACTA, GLBA, FCRA, PCI and other federal and state laws or practices.
